Research Project
Improving Population Size Estimation for Bornean Elephant in Lower Kinabatangan
Status: Ongoing

Summary:
The government of Sabah has approved the Bornean Elephant State Action Plan (BEAP) 2020-2029, which aims to provide direction and guidance on the strategies, priorities, and actions for elephant conservation at the state level. The major goal of this study is to provide a baseline elephant population estimate for the Kinabatangan landscape. This baseline estimate is necessary for a comprehensive evaluation of the effectiveness of the BEAP 2020-2029 at the Kinabatangan landscape level. At present there is no reliable information about the size of this important elephant population.
